5 Seconds of Summer delivered two unexpected moments during the opening day of Lollapalooza in Chicago on July 30. During Sombr’s set, the Australian pop-rock band joined him onstage for a performance of their 2014 hit She Looks So Perfect.
The festival appearance came after 5 Seconds of Summer had already performed their own set earlier in the day. Their show included a rock-focused version of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, giving the 2010 pop song a heavier live arrangement.
Sombr introduced the group before the collaboration, drawing a loud response from the crowd. The joint performance added a surprise element to his set and connected his newer material with one of 5 Seconds of Summer’s best-known songs.
The band’s Lollapalooza schedule also included an official after-show at The Salt Shed on August 1. Their Chicago appearances continued a busy period for the group, which has remained active with festival dates and new music.
Both performances reflected Lollapalooza’s tradition of unannounced collaborations and familiar songs presented in a different style.
